The Land

Emery Farm sits on 130 acres of land just outside of Durham, New Hampshire.

We are just a five-minute drive to the University of New Hampshire, and ten minutes to Portsmouth, which is filled with great shops, restaurants and year-round events. Our farm is also just one hour away from Boston, Massachusetts and Portland, Maine.

As the 10th generation of our family on the farm, we acknowledge the Abenaki, Penacook, and Wabenaki peoples that have lived on this land for more than 12,000 years. We have committed to protecting this land in perpetuity, having placed it in conservation easements in partnership with the state of New Hampshire, NRCS, and the Town of Durham.

We invite you to join us as we commit to honoring and exploring the full history of the land and its people.

As a guest on this land, you may enjoy hiking and mountain biking on trails in the 800+ acres of farm and protected conservation areas near by. You can walk just down the road to the town owned Wagon Hill Farm to access to a beautiful tidal river where you can swim.

You'll be able to stroll over to Emery Farm Market and Café for a morning cappuccino, or to explore the breakfast and lunch menus. You'll find the farmstand stocked with everything you might need from fresh seasonal produce, beer wine, apple cider donuts, ice cream and more. Bring the kids and check out our petting barn!

Activities

Out of respect for this land, and the planet, we have endeavored to create the smallest environmental impact possible during your stay. We have installed over 47 kW of solar electric panels on the farm to reduce our carbon footprint.

There is an EV charger at the Farm Stand, another at the Main House, and a third at the Brown House. All houses on the farm have been super insulated to the extent possible. In addition, we have installed super efficient heating and cooling systems in each of the properties, as well as energy efficient heat pumps and hot water heaters.

Water is a gift, and we consider it sacred on the farm. The water for the three houses comes from a dug well that is spring fed, then passed through two filtration systems: a sediment filter and an ultraviolet light filter. This means you'll get to delight in the purest, most delicious possible water.

We offer shampoo, conditioner, and clothing detergent products that are biodegradable and sourced from environmentally sound options. For example, laundry detergent is Truearth (comes in strips, no more plastic bottles).
